Favourite Places
Favourite Places is the upcoming music compilation on exploratory music label AudioBulb. It features music inspired by and mixed from field recordings of places of importance to 10 contemporary artists including Taylor Deupree, Leafcutter John, Biosphere and Dot Tape Dot. Having attracted innovative musicians to the project Audiobulb were keen to push the boundaries with the design of the artwork.
The Idea
When the brief arrived at Stereographic we wanted to look at it from a different perspective. There was an existing idea to plot the locations of the favourite places on a world map but we realised it was more than this. Favourite places aren't really about their location but about somewhere made of memories, atmospheres and feelings, that exist more in our minds and hearts than geographically.
The Craft
We stripped the map idea back to an abstract, imaginary formation of lines and areas. The favourite places were indicated by sticking 10 randomly placed yellow vinyl dots onto each CD jewel case, separating the places from a specific point on a map but still indicating location. Each hand finished CD is unique.
The package is finished off with the artwork folding out into an A2 poster, giving the artists' photos of the places their own room to breathe as well as providing a great piece of work to put on your wall.
We also designed the brand identity and logo from the ground up giving the project a distinctive image that will carry it through further releases.
The Final Word
This artwork has been universally very well received and there is every indication that this will help to drive the success of this enchanting release. We will leave the final word to David Newman, proprietor of Audiobulb Records:
"It was clear from the outset that George and Sam were keen to connect with myself and the product and to understand what Audiobulb wanted to achieve from the CD design. The design process gained instant momentum when I agreed to let them generate ideas. I was impressed by a number of factors. Firstly their talent and enthusiasm. They took the project, formulated their ideas, returned a first draft to me and worked up a final design outline within a matter of days. Secondly their communication is excellent. I found that they kept me up to date with polite, useful and responsive communications. Lastly their professionalism. It was clear that they had a keen interest in delivering a high quality, eye-catching and unique design for the product. My distributors have remarked on how eye-catching the CD is and this has resulted in an increased demand for the product.
I would recommend Stereographic to any company looking to increase the desirability or interest in their product through forward thinking art and design."
