“wasted” by stereographic was born out of a vision of a huge transparent bin, exposing and directly confronting us with the results of our consumer society, at the same time creating a thing of beauty...
it has since become many other things as well; it represents all the design we don’t see, that gets thrown away, the failed pitches (which weren’t necessarily bad or wrong creatively), the countless phases and changes in design (that didn’t work for one reason or another), the alternative designs that weren’t chosen, the cancelled projects that had time/love and money invested in them but are now no longer destined to have a pair of eyes gaze over them.....
everything included has been designed; whether by a celebrity figure in hoxton, a multinational agency or just some guy in his bedroom. we are shaped by this design both in its lifetime as a viable design piece and when it has been discarded. no-one can deny that the waste we produce as humanity is shaping our world in one way or another. where the blame lies and what role design has to play is a question for you.
